Census collection
This collection consist of all the Censuses taken on the islands of the former Netherlands Antilles (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius, Saba) and conducted by the Central Bureau of Statistics Curaçao.
The United Nations defines a census as: "the complete process of collecting, composing, evaluating, analyzing and publishing demographic, economic and social data of all the people in a country at specific pint in time". This same definition also applies to a house count. Just as in other parts of the world, both counts have been conducted simultaneously in the former Netherlands Antilles since 1971.
The census collections that is currently available in this library are from the years 1960,1971, 1981,1992, 2001 and 2011. The Census of 1960 was not a general census because Aruba was not included in this census.
These census collections contains valuable information of the social, demographic and economic situation of these islands from the ABC islands, St.Maarten, St.Eustatius and Saba.
